History
Abel’s Paint & Body Shop, Inc.
Abel Garcia started his business in April 1967, after working for
Gillespie Ford for 8 years. He was confident enough to start his own
business, that he convinced 3 employees from Gillespie Ford to come work
for him. They worked for Abel until they all retired in the 1980’s. After a
few years in the business, Abel decided to expand his business by adding
more shops. By 1980, Abel’s had grown to as many as 4 shops. After a few
years Abel decided to sell his investments and focus on the main shop locate
at 103 Blanco rd., which he owned from 1978 thru 2009.
Abel’s Body & Paint shop ventures have included doing
business with entities such as, C.P.S., Holes of San Antonio, Croft truck
and equipment (now, Ranch Hand dist. LLC), Limons Road service,
Carmax, Progressive, MetLife , State Farm, USAA,(to name a few insurance
companies), amtech lighting and Air force entertainment. And of course
many repeat customers, who have been faithful to Abel’s Body & Paint
Shop, recommending us to their family and friends.
One business decision of Abel was to hire his son-in-law, Dimas Quintana,
on May of 1999. After a few months working at Abel’s, Dimas decided on
his own to move into the office and tackle some responsibilities. Dimas
eventually took over making himself service writer, manager and finally
general manager. Dimas has never looked back, Abel’s has grown at a
steady pace since Dimas took charge of the business.
After 42 years in the business of repairing all types of vehicles and
dealing with his great customers. Abel decided to retire and sell his business
to Dimas and Yvonne Quintana. Abel was stubborn enough to keep it in the
family and continue the tradition with our customers. Abel plans to invest on
a smaller scale, to keep himself busy. As anyone knows Abel, he can never
stay home doing nothing. Abel plans to venture in the poker circuit and play
with the bigdogs. Hopefully we’ll see him on TV soon.
GOOD LUCK DAD!
